In the organiser's words

What the official page says.

Quoted from hangar.com.pt and checked on 1 September 2026. This is the organiser's description, reproduced as captured. It has not been through the evidence checks that produced the figures above.

Hangar is an Art Research Centre set amongst the historic streets of Graça, against the backdrop of Lisbon. It is an independent space run by artists and curators that contemplates the visual arts, magnetically attracting minds from an array of different countries and cultures, and encouraging the development of cross-disciplinary artistic projects in the visual arts. It was conceived as a centre for artistic experimentation, providing space for the convergence of contemporary processes and artistic practices.

The centre is actively engaged in artistic analysis and research, providing room for exhibitions and artistic residencies, whilst supporting a Participation Program (Educational Services) and a Research Program (Seminars and Publications). Hangar aims to catalyse communication between artists, researchers and other artistic initiatives, and to encourage discussion about emerging contemporary art, stimulating the development of artistic and theoretical practices motivated by experimental and shared experiences.

The centre is located in a modern 1960‘s four-storey building, with vast open space, in the beautiful area of Graça in Lisbon. HANGAR Cowork Residency was conceived for artists, researchers, creatives, musicians, performers, writers and curators based in Lisbon or who prefer to stay accommodated outside the Hangar building but want to participate at Hangar residency program.
