2-, 3-, and 4-week residencies
- Accommodation
Each resident is provided with a furnished private room, private or shared bathroom, access to a shared kitchen and communal spaces. All residency housing is located in a quiet, residential neighborhood and is a short walk to studio buildings, administrative offices, amenities, and recreation. We serve 3 communal meals a day, Monday – Saturday, brunch and dinner on Sunday. Breakfast is a self-serve breakfast bar. Our menus are based around sustainability and support of local agriculture. Our meals feature fresh breads, homemade desserts, soups, and salads made with fresh produce from local farms.
- Disciplines & equipment
All disciplines are welcome. The Schultz Sculpture Shop and outdoor work yard are communal areas for wood, metal, ceramic, and mixed media fabricated work. The outdoor work yard offers space for larger pieces and non-permanent site-specific installations. The shop provides equipment for woodworking, welding, ceramics, along with a variety of hand, electric, and pneumatic tools. The Print Shop is designed for monoprinting and is available to residents enrolled as printmakers. Maverick Writing studio provides comfort and river views for all of our writers.
- Studio
Studios are equipped with a painting table, rolling cart, stool, ample wall space, natural and artificial lighting, and wifi. Easels are available in communal areas. Writing studios are equipped with sitting or standing desk, bookcase, bulletin board, and sofa chair.
- Fees & support
The full cost for 4 weeks at Vermont Studio Center is more than $12,000. Through the generosity of individual donors and foundation partners, VSC is able to ensure a full or partial fellowship for every attendee. All fellowships are awarded through a competitive process. Approximately 35% of all VSC residents receive full fellowships each year. Partial fellowship recipients are asked to pay a reduced fee to attend. These fees are $2,700 for 12 days, $3,825 for 19 days, and $4,950 for 26 days.
Please note, these fees are effective for all applications received in 2026. A 10% discount on this fee is available to residents who elect to share a bathroom with one other resident, subject to availability. We are always working to increase the quantity of full fellowships being offered at each application cycle.
- Expectations
All residents have access to the Visiting Artist & Writer program. During every session there will be opportunities for residents to share their work through Resident Presentations and Open Studios. Residents can also participate in the Community Contribution by assisting in one of these areas: kitchen, grounds, administrative, or skill share.
